Our Club meeting included a presentation made by Hunter Charbonnet regarding their trip to attend the International Camellia Society Convention held in Italy and Locarno, Switzerland. The presentation centered around the many gardens when camellias were in full bloom at a number of private Villas and Palaces.

Our featured speaker was author, F. Wayne Stromeyer, as co-author, Trenton L. James could not attend. They recently published "Early Camellias in Louisiana - 1825-1860 Long Lost Treasures Rediscovered". Inspired by the recreation of their own historic gardens, the authors have uncovered evidence in archival documents and in their landscapes' original plantings of many extraordinary camellias from the early 19th century. They sold and signed every book they brought to our meeting.

Due to a number of Club members attending the International Camellia Society Congress held in Italy, a club meeting was not held. Member, Hunter Charbonnet, will be putting together a PowerPoint presentation for next season to share the events and places visited. It is a meeting you do not want to miss.

There were 25 members of the club that made the trip to Jeanerette LA to tour the house and grounds of Albania Mansion.Formerly known as Albania Plantation, the home was built between 1837 and 1842 by Charles Alexandre Grevemberg, who operated a successful sugar plantation on its original 6500 acres. Liz & Terry Creel have restored the building and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Several of the members spent the prior night at the Mansion enjoying the serenity of the property and the beautiful view of Bayou Teche. A delicious box lunch with refreshments was enjoyed by all. Liz provided stories and history on the Mansion and the club provided her a Georgia National Fair grafted camellia to add to the remaining camellias on the property. See link below for pictures.

A end of the season picnic for the Northshore Camellia Club was held. A short discussion was held about the impacts to the camellias given the late freeze. The Nominating Committee will provide its slate of officer recommendations for the next two years. The recommendations will be sent to members prior to our first fall season meeting and a vote will be held at that meeting. The club looks forward to all returning next season with the hope all entice others to join our group. When it comes to gardening and camellias, there is plenty to share and enjoy with others.
